Is water with lemon drunk on an empty stomach healthy?
Good morning, I have been struggling with being overweight for a long time. I gained weight after pregnancy and so I can’t get back into shape. I’ve tried many diets, but none of them brings beneficial results or the weight loss is very small. A friend told me that drinking water with lemon on an empty stomach helps lose weight and is healthy.
Somehow I don’t want to believe that this is enough to get rid of weight. Of course, diet is also important in this case, but does drinking lemon water on an empty stomach really help? What are the advantages of drinking lemon water on an empty stomach? Or are there negative effects of it and doctors don’t recommend its use after all? I don’t know myself where to look for help anymore, so I tried to write here. I hope to get the answer I need as to whether fasting lemon water is healthy and whether drinking it helps to lose weight at all.
Or maybe there are other similar methods to help the body and fight obesity? For any valuable advice, thank you very much. I already have an appointment with a nutritionist, but I thought I might get some information on this and other topics beforehand. Greetings
Doctor explains whether it’s worth drinking water with lemon on an empty stomach
Dear lady, a glass of lemon water consumed every morning will obviously not make you lose weight. It is not a drink with exceptional properties, causing weight loss. However, this does not mean that it has no effect on our body and we should not drink it. Lemon contains in itself a lot of antioxidants or antioxidants that protect against the action of free radicals that have a negative impact on our health.
Free radicals can cause mutations in human (and non-human) DNA increasing the risk of developing cancerous diseases. Some people claim that lemon protects against infections due to its anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, but personally I am not convinced by this theory. Daily morning consumption of water with lemon certainly has a beneficial effect on our digestive tract. It stimulates peristalsis and secretion of digestive enzymes.
Unfortunately, it is not for everyone. Water with lemon should be avoided by people with reflux disease or active stomach ulcers, due to the acidification of gastric juice and its excessive production, which may end up in unpleasant discomfort. Lemon is rich in vitamin C, which is involved in the production of collagen by our cells.
Collagen gives elasticity to the skin and blood vessels, among other things, and also builds cartilage in the joints, increasing their strength. As you can see, lemon water is worth consuming for its various health-promoting properties, but it should not be considered a cure for overweight or obesity. Unfortunately, you can find a lot of contradictory or false information on the Internet regarding weight loss. Many of them claim that you can achieve your desired weight without any effort.
Of course, this is not true. In order to get rid of excess weight, you need to combine a proper diet with regular physical activity. Apart from visiting a dietician, I suggest that you also consult a personal trainer, who will choose the right exercises for you and will watch over your motivation.
